The UN's recent focus on youth

The United Nations have recently published a World Youth Report on youth employment and young people's perspectives on the pursuit of decent work in changing times.

The context
The transition of young people into work marks a critical period in the life cycle. In effect, the manner in which a young person enters the work force influences his or her life-long employment experiences. When and how this transition occurs further impacts the well-being of that person as well as his/her relationships with family, friends, community and society.

How the report was produced
The present report is largely based on an e-discussion with young people and representatives of youth-led organizations on the transition from schools and training institutions into the world of work.

About the report
The report is divided into four chapter, which focus on employment and youth, preparing for work, searching for work and youth at work respectively. You can see case studies or the full report here.

Moreover, UN Secretary General Ban-Ki Moon has pledged to engage more firmly with young people around the world saying he will appoint a UN Special Representative on Youth as part of his 5-year action agenda "The Future We Want".
