THE NEW EYCA ENVIRONMENTAL CONCEPT

Melting glaciers, crumbling rocks, an increasing number of floods and heavy thunderstorms, these are clear signs of a climate change that already has begun. Since there is not enough environmental commitment happening on the political level, the responsibility also falls on organisations, companies, and other social actors.

Therefore, the European Youth Card Association as a network advocating chances and development for the young has a special duty in relation to tomorrow’s living conditions. In the following text we would like to present a sustainable concept for climate protection with which EYCA makes an active contribution to climate protection.

Aims
A committed interest and active participation in climate protection strengthens young people’s personal responsibility. It is EYCA’s concern to encourage and support this by being a role model.

Course of action
In a first step to a Corporate Social Responsibility EYCA will question and clarify its own stand to environmental and climate protection behaviour. The following ideas and possibilities of action are suggested for our sustainable development:

Internet Site
On the EYCA / EURO<26 websites, well-founded information on climate protection and compensation projects or partnerships will be published and blogs can be set up on the subject of climate change.
A suggestion is to publish a special newsletter containing climate and environment-specific information on running projects as well as tips on compensation products, information about new publications, events and campaigns.

Compensation Projects
With a compensation payment to a climate protection organisation or by establishing its own environmental fund (see the following section) EYCA is able to lend some climate neutrality to the necessary travels. For this a sum will be calculated for aircraft kilometers causing CO2 emissions, which then will be donated for climate protection projects. The donated money is used for example to replant rain forests, for water protection or to extend the use of wind power. In this way projects such as myclimate.org make an important contribution to a sustainable development.

Environmental Funds
Investing money in environmental funds is a good addition to other efforts because these funds finance climate protection projects and innovative, climate neutral technologies. EYCA not only has the possibility to create reserves in such types of investment but also to issue its own environmental fund, not as an investment but as a tool to support environmental campaigns. An expert jury would then decide on the selection of projects worthy of sponsorship.

Conclusion
As an organization in particular working for young people, EYCA is responsible to contribute actively to preserving the environment and good living conditions. For EYCA this offers the opportunity to gain European competence and reputation on a seminal topic.
