At the end of 2008, EYCA and its Member organisations ran a public
competition for the re-design of the EURO<26 logo. We received
more than 5000 entries from companies and individual graphic designers.
A professional jury made up of highly competent and diverse branding
experts then chose from the overwhelming amount of designs five logos
into the final round. These were voted on by EYCAs General
Assembly, which represents all Member organisations.
During the May 2009 conference in Cardiff, the EYCA General Assembly
approved the new logo of the association and its use.
Logo change time line
The old EURO<26 Hercules logo will be valid until
December 31, 2012.
For a transition period of two years May 2009 until May
2011 the new logo will be used together with the old logo
only. In this combination, the old logo features without the original
yellow frame and without the inscription EURO<26.
The design of the cards, both classic and co-branded, mentions the name European Youth Card, either in English or in
translation in a national language.
NB: Member organisation of EYCA will provide discount providers with
promotional materials that will ensure the validity of both the new and
old logo as well as the reciprocity of discounts Europe-wide.
Attributes of the new logo
* Brand recognition is addressed by maintaining the corporate colours
and contrasting the letters and in the logo to keep a resemblance with the
Hercules figure in the old logo.
* The EYCA logotype replaces the original inscription EURO<26.
This change was necessary, as half of the Member organisations
increased the age limit for cardholder up to 30 years of age and
EURO<26 no longer described the target group of the card. The
new brand name for the card will be European Youth Card.
* The identity of the old logo is also continued by placing the black Hercules figure on a magenta background and using
the element of the yellow star.
* From a practical point of view, the square shape of the new logo (as
opposed to the previously rectangular) allows for an easier placement
on the card, also in combination with other logos.
* The new design emphasises continuity, is playful in combining both
the initials EYCA (European Youth Card Association / European Youth
Card) and the Hercules figure in the logotype and last but not least,
it is modern as well as strong in communication and recognition.
